LIGHTS SIBERIA
The second full-length studio album by Canadian electro-synth-pop sensation LIGHTS was released 13 days ago. On the first listen one can immediately hear that LIGHTS has grown immensely as a musician, producer and artist. Her songs seem more complex musically, electronically and lyrically than they did on The Listening. I wouldn't say that Siberia is a better album than The Listening because the both albums are amazing in different ways, but Siberia is an absolute master-piece. It's catchy right from the opening title track Siberia right through to the 9 minute closing track , Day One, which is a live recording of the first jam session LIGHTS had with fellow Canadian musicians Holy Fuck. LIGHTS has said that the album is a lot more gritty than The Listening and has a lot of Dubstep elements particularly in Flux and Flow, Where the fence is low, Suspension and Fourth dimension.
Over-all Siberia is an album that was well worth the wait and is one of my favourite albums of 2011. Siberia also features Canadian rapper and hip-hop artist Shad on two of the tracks. Do yourself a favour and get your hands on this album. Both Deluxe edition CD and special Red vinyl are available at http://music.iamlights.com/store/ and on Itunes.

"I am I, you are you, we are we
We could live in such harmony.
Can't you see, apathy, lies between
We could live in such harmony.
And I am praying for the day
When you and I and he and she are we
When you and I and he and she are we
Humanity will sing harmony.
We start a war, but what's it for? We fight for peace
Peace will find us with harmony"
We could live in such harmony.
Can't you see, apathy, lies between
We could live in such harmony.
And I am praying for the day
When you and I and he and she are we
When you and I and he and she are we
Humanity will sing harmony.
We start a war, but what's it for? We fight for peace
Peace will find us with harmony"
"Oh I know that I am here and you are there
But we still have our love
We move just like the moon and sun
The sun comes up,
The moon rolls down,
A world apart but they don't make a sound;
They know their love spins us round.
I've been to heaven
I've been to hell
I've been to Vegas
And God knows where
But nothing feels like home,
Like you babe "

The temper trap
What happens when you mix 2 Australians, 1 Indonesian and a New Zealander? Well you get 2 Australians, 1 Indonesian and a New Zealander... But give those 4 guys musical instruments and perfection is manifests itself in the form of the temper trap, the new indie rock, alternative sensation that has been blowing up our radios and TV screen with hits like Sweet disposition and fader. They were formed in 2005 and signed to Infectious records worldwide, which is appropriate considering their sound is nothing but infectious. They released their first EP in 2006 ans their debut album Conditions in 2009 ,which went platinum in Australia and Gold in the UK, and have since had sold out shows world wide. Get your hands on conditions as soon as possible if don't already have it... if you do have it, put it on and blast the awesomeness that is the temper trap as loud as you possibly can.

Young the giant
I recently stumbled upon this gem and I am thoroughly hooked. Young the giant are an indie rock band from Irvine, California and the hold true to their genre. Each song is a well thought out catchy indie track. Songs like my body and I got make you want to jump out your seat and pounce around like a teenage at a killers concert while cough syrup and islands making want to throw your lighter in the air and sing along at the top of your lungs. The band was formed in 2004 and was originally known as the Jakes. After several line-up changes they settled on the final line-up of Sameer Gadhia, Jacob Tilley, Eric Cannata, Payam Doostzadeh, Francois Comtois in 2008. In 2009 they won an online contest and open for Kings if Leon at he House of blues in Chicago. In 2010 they released their debut self-titled album with producer Joe Chicarelli. Their album is a must have for indie or alternative fans and in my opinion is only the tip of the iceberg for this Californian 5-piece.

Dance gain dance Downtown battle mountain II
Post-hardcore 5-piece Dance Gavin Dance is back with their brand new album, Downtown battle mountain out 8 march 2011. For this album original members Jonny Craig, Jonathan Mess and Eric Lodge rejoined the band in 2010. Dance Gavin dance now consists of its original line-up apart from Sean O'Sullivan. They have released two singles off the album thus far, the first being 'Heat seeking ghost of sex' and the second is 'the robot with human hair part 2 1/2' both were released in January 2011. There may be mixed reviews about adding Jonny Craig to the line-up again seeing as DGD will already commence their tour in March with alternate singer Tilian Pearson while Jonny Craig is in rehab, but personally being a big fan of Jonny Craig I think it was one of the best choices they could have made. His voice adds an extra element to any band he performs with and only time will tell how long the current line-up will remain and if Craig will be part of the band for their next album.

Yeah I sing with an accent... so?
Have you ever noticed how some bands and singers are able to hide their accents perfectly with a mastered and rehearsed American accent. Its common in most performers that you actually only find out they're not American when they speak, But there is something about singers with accents that adds an edge to their music, maybe its the small difference in pronunciation or the overall influence of their origin on their sound. Think of bands like Flood of red, Twin Atlantic, Belle and Sebastian, Biffy Clyro and frightened rabbit can you imagine them achieving their sound with out those Scottish accents? or maybe vanilla sky and their Italian accent that at first may seem amusing but later it actually becomes part of their uniqueness. Indie wouldn't be the same with out the casual, laid back, almost narrative breaks in song from bands like the Artic Monkies, The Kooks, Primal scream, Hadouken! and Cage the elephant with an easy British accent. Imagine reggae with out a Jamaican accent. Even heavier bands like Bring me the horizon, The architects and Asking Alexandria let their accents stumble into their music and personally prefer it when bands let Their origins shine through in their style instead of trying to conform to some preconception that makes people think that in order to make a perfect, flowing American accent is required.
